Taylor Wimpey secures planning at Dargavel Village, Bishopton

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland is delighted to secure full planning permission from Renfrewshire Council for the provision of 147 new homes at Dargavel Village, Bishopton signalling a key milestone within the first phase of this major transformational project in the west of Scotland.

The 16.5 acre site in Dargavel Village, Bishopton provides Taylor Wimpey with the opportunity to deliver a range of three, four and five bedroom new homes in a variety of styles and sizes to appeal to a wide range of buyers.  The development benefits from a design brief that offers interesting streetscenes, detailed landscaping along with specific tree-planting around key character areas that will be reflected both within our development, and at key points across the wider development as the vision for the masterplan unfolds.

Taylor Wimpey is one of the largest homebuilders in the UK, helping to create new homes and communities across the country.  Dargavel Village, Bishopton is a flagship development that forms part of a multi-million pound regeneration programme that will see facilities for a new commmunity delivered alongside the range of new homes by a variety of developers.

Dargavel Village, Bishopton allows Taylor Wimpey to embrace the latest Scottish planning guidance by utilising the principles of ‘Designing Streets’ – which is planning guidance that aims to give priority to pedestrian and cycles rather than cars.

In real-time this will see Taylor Wimpey introduce features such as road focal points within many of the street-scenes, as well as character areas which are essentially shared spaces in a residential zone which provide a focus for social interaction.  Character areas will be real assets to the overall feel of this development with trees, landscaping and street furniture creating a social space in preference to the traditional facility for cars – giving residents and people visiting the development on foot or cycle the priority throughout.

Willie Burns, managing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said:  "Taylor Wimpey is delighted to be included within the first housebuilders' consortium to deliver its part of the masterplan that will create a new way of living in Bishopton.

“Our planning permission is the result of a key working partnership with both Renfrewshire Council and BAE Systems to bring to life and deliver their vision for Dargavel Village in Bishopton.  And this is a very exciting time for the project as the implementation of many years of work begins.

"The scope of Taylor Wimpey's development will ensure there's a wide choice of homes to suit a broad range of buyers and we're keen to make a positive contribution to the community as our development progresses.

"We expect to start works within the next few weeks, and plan to have our homes on sale by early 2013."

Lynda Johnstone, Bishopton Project Director for BAE Systems said:  “It is testament to the scale and quality of the transformational project we have in Bishopton, that it has sparked the high level of interest from property developers of the calibre of Taylor Wimpey.

“With the company now another step closer to delivering their mix of high quality family homes at Dargavel Village, we will soon see our vision for the area coming to life.

"The multi-million pound regeneration programme will result in a new community, which alongside the housing development, will include a new primary school, library, community centre, leisure facilities and woodland park to complement the existing friendly, close-knit village feel of Bishopton.”
