Derek Mackay MSP visits Dargavel Village, Bishopton.

Derek Mackay MSP (Minister for Local Government and Planning) took the opportunity this week to visit and see for himself the progress of the construction of new homes at Dargavel Village, Bishopton.

The multi-million pound regeneration programme will provide high quality homes in the area and deliver a new community, which alongside the housing development will include a new primary school, library, community centre, leisure centre and woodland park to complement the existing friendly, close-knit village feel of Bishopton.

The first phase of the development, which includes housebuilders CALA, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey, offers around 530 modern, energy efficient homes comprising two, three, four and five bedrooms on the BAE Systems-owned site in Bishopton, making this one of the most exciting property developments taking place in the UK at the moment.

During his time as Leader of Renfrewshire Council, Mr Mackay played a key role in the overall development of the Bishopton masterplan.  Following an on-site visit to see for himself the transformation that is underway Mr Mackay said: "Seeing firsthand the progress that's being made in the initial phase of new housing at Dargavel Village was a great opportunity to see the commitment and drive from the developers to make the vision for the former Royal Ordnance Factory site in Bishopton become a reality.

"I'm delighted to hear from Taylor Wimpey that the demand for new homes at Dargavel Village is well ahead of expectations, and that crucially there's a strong interest from a wide range of buyers from both the local market as well as further afield."

“Since announcing this project, there has been a real appetite for information on our new homes at Dargavel Village, Bishopton with prospective buyers investing their own time into researching the development, and buyers who camped out overnight to buy one of new homes even before we had officially released the first phase for sale.  This is a major transformational project in the west of Scotland, and it’s encouraging to see the consistent demand is continuing with high visitor traffic each week.”

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s first development in Dargavel Village, Bishopton offers 147 new homes comprising a range of three, four and five bedroom houses in a variety of styles and sizes.  A further development of 150 new homes offering a mix of two, three, and four bedroom styles will be introduced later this year – increasing the overall choice of homes for buyers to consider.

The sales information centre is located off the North Access Road, Dargavel Village, Bishopton.  Opening hours are Thursday – Monday from 11am-5.30pm.  For the latest availability and prices visit www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/dargavelvillage.
